The months in Arabic, from the CEFR-levelled Lock&Learn Arabic lists with romanizations and meanings. Arabic has three sets of month names in daily use, the two Gregorian sets of the east and west of the Arab world and the Hijri months of the Islamic calendar; the note above the list gives all three in order.

In Lock&Learn Arabic these words sit in their level packs (Beginner, Elementary), one per glance on the widget: a fully vocalized word waits with its romanization; one tap reveals the meaning and a real sentence. Beginner is free in full; every other pack opens with a free preview.

Type to filter by Arabic, romanization or meaning. Flashcards hides the meaning until you tap a row; Shuffle deals the list in a new order.

Arabic has three sets of month names in daily use. Egypt, Sudan and the Gulf use names borrowed from the European months; Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Iraq use old Syriac names; and everywhere, religious dates and many calendars follow the twelve Hijri months of the Islamic lunar year, which fall about eleven days earlier each Gregorian year. (Tunisia and Algeria use French-derived forms such as جَانْفِي jānfī for January.)

What are the months in Arabic?

It depends on the country. Egypt and the Gulf say yanāyir, fibrāyir, māris and so on; Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and Iraq say kānūn al-thānī, shubāṭ, ādhār; and the Hijri calendar runs from Muḥarram to Dhū al-Ḥijja, with Ramaḍān the ninth month. The note above the list gives all three sets, and the table the 22 month words on the CEFR-levelled Lock&Learn Arabic lists.

Which CEFR levels are these words from?

14 from A1, 8 from A2. The level chip on each row says where the word sits, so you can stop at your level or read ahead. Beginner-level words carry a real example sentence; the rest show word, romanization and meaning, with their sentences in the app.

How do I learn month words on my iPhone Lock Screen?

Install Lock&Learn Arabic, then touch and hold your Lock Screen, tap Customize, tap the widget area and choose Lock&Learn Arabic. Enable the level packs these words come from (Beginner, Elementary). A fully vocalized word waits with its romanization; one tap reveals the meaning and a real sentence.

Is Lock&Learn Arabic free?

Yes. The app is free on iOS: Beginner is free in full, and every other pack opens with a free preview. Lock&Learn+ is an optional upgrade that opens every pack at once, offered as a yearly plan (with a 3-day free trial) or a monthly plan.
