The words that place things in time: the days of the week, the months, the seasons, today and tomorrow, morning and evening, hours and minutes. Every entry is drawn from the CEFR-levelled Lock&Learn Arabic lists with its reading and meaning.
In Lock&Learn Arabic these words sit in their level packs (Beginner, Elementary), one per glance on the widget: a fully vocalized word waits with its romanization; one tap reveals the meaning and a real sentence. Beginner is free in full; every other pack opens with a free preview.
Type to filter by Arabic, romanization or meaning. Flashcards hides the meaning until you tap a row; Shuffle deals the list in a new order.
Most of the Arab world starts the week on Sunday, and in most countries the weekend is Friday and Saturday. Sunday to Thursday are simply numbered, from al-aḥad, "the first", to al-khamīs, "the fifth"; Friday, al-jumuʿa, is "the gathering", the day of the congregational prayer.
| English | Arabic | Romanization | Literally |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday | الأَحَد | al-aḥad | the first |
| Monday | الاِثْنَيْن | al-ithnayn | the second |
| Tuesday | الثُّلَاثَاء | al-thulāthāʾ | the third |
| Wednesday | الأَرْبِعَاء | al-arbiʿāʾ | the fourth |
| Thursday | الخَمِيس | al-khamīs | the fifth |
| Friday | الجُمُعَة | al-jumuʿa | the gathering |
| Saturday | السَّبْت | al-sabt | the sabbath |
Put يَوْم yawm, "day", in front for the full name, and the same phrase says "on": أُسَافِرُ يَوْمَ الخَمِيسِ usāfiru yawma l-khamīs, I travel on Thursday.
